Kessingland – Field Lane Surgery
Trainers:
Dr David Johnston
Dr R Coleman
Surgeries: Kessingland, Wrentham, Wangford and Brampton

This is a rural five partner practice (dispensing to approximately 30% of its patients) covering two hundred square miles of north east Suffolk. The Practice is zoned so that partners work from a village surgery in their own area. The main surgery is at Kessingland, where four partners are based and where most of the Registrar’s time is spent.

Four of the partners take a share in the training, but most of the undertaking is covered by Dr Johnston. We have three surgeries (one purpose built and two converted) and one branch surgery (Woodside). We have GP beds at Southwold hospital where we also cover the casualty department. We cover a Psychogeriatric hospital at Carlton Colville. We also participate in the local accident rescue service.

There is the usual range of equipment in the surgery such as an ECG machine, nebulisers, peak flow meters etc. More equipment is available at Southwold hospital, such as sigmoidoscope, cryotherapy and an anaesthetic machine.

The partners’ clinical interests include minor surgery, geriatrics, child welfare and psychiatry and their non-clinical interests include sailing, tennis, diving and carpentry.
GPStR’s are not expected to live in the practice area.
