Having identified the key issues and challenges confronting the James Paget University NHS Foundation Trust, the Trust’s strategic priorities are set out:
- Maintaining and strengthening our core services to achieve year-on-year improvements in clinical, operational and financial performance of the acute and community services that form the backbone of our Trust.
- Meeting the comprehensive needs of our high risk population. We aim to take a proactive role in managing and delivering care pathways for growing patient populations, in particular the elderly and those suffering from long term conditions. This includes working in partnership with others to address the needs of the community and support NHS Great Yarmouth and Waveney in reducing health inequalities.
- Enhancing the overall experience of our patients to ensure all patients of the Trust experience high quality care in a professional environment, treated with dignity and respect. Listening to the experience of our patients will be key to further improving our services.
- Being an excellent employer. We want to be recognised as an employer that is committed to the development of our staff, recruiting the most capable and dedicated employees who share our vision for excellent patient care. Clear and consistent leadership for our staff and investment in their ongoing training and development are important commitments we aim to deliver during this period.
University of East Anglia Medical School
The new medical school at the University of East Anglia is an exiting new venture involving the UEA, Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital, James Paget University Hospital, Norfolk Mental Health, and General Practitioners in Norfolk & Suffolk.
The curriculum will be a balance of clinical practice and theory, with the same amount of clinical experience in the first year as the fifth year. The first intake of students was in Autumn 2002 and the students first contact has been in primary care, with the first hospital placements in January 2003.
The major emphasis will be given to professional training. Structured training will be evidence based. The James Paget University Hospital consultants are involved in the development and delivery of the curriculum and will be actively involved in the teaching programme.
